A Race Against Time: Serious Games

13 May 2009 No Comment By Rachel Beaney

spaceinvadersOn Sunday 10th May, Vibewire & Future Journeys organised the e-festival serious pervasive game called A Race Against Time.

A serious pervasive game is one played in the real world with connections to virtual and digital spaces with the purpose of engaging more people more deeply in one issue, and we chose to play around immigration.

The game, built like a treasure hunt, consisted in finding the answers to the clue questions and taking pictures of Darling Harbour and Ultimo while interpreting the meaning of these pictures.

The 5 teams gathered “information” and took great shots while spending a very fun afternoon.

About the game:
“Its May 10, 2025. The world is in turmoil. We know that there were opportunities to stop this happening back in 2009. What we don’t understand is exactly what these things were.
You have been chosen to research some of the things that led to the demise of society.

You have been chosen to locate these trends and events and help us change the direction of sydney. Watch out for the spies located around the city.

The countdown begins.”

The Lyman team won the game with a total of 510 rpm, followed by the D&M&J&S team with 420 rpm, third were the Rescuers with 360 rpm, fourth were the Go! team with 290 rpm, and finally the Vibe team gathered 230 rpm.
