fastbreak returns for 2016.

We’re kicking off this year of rapid-fire talks at 8am on Friday 27 May.

This month’s fastbreak tackles UNCERTAINTY. What regularly rises as a barrier to progress, or a stimulant for fear, is grappled by a selection of five niche experts curated especially for our audience. From across the fields of media, politics, arts and social commentary, this month we have Brittany Lee Waller and Osman Faruqi (three more guests to be announced!)

BRITTANY LEE WALLER
“I like to think of myself as a storyteller, less bad dad jokes more witty, life of the party sort of raconteur. A girl can dream, right?”

Brittany Lee Waller is a freelance writer, editor and content producer. She has spent 8 years working across Gourmet Traveller, Peats Ridge Music Festival, Drinks World Asia, Rare Birds and Nine Network Australia. Brittany founded storytelling site Meet the People because she has always believed that people should be at the essence of everything we do. She likes short walks to the bar and prefers everything to come with a pop culture reference.

OSMAN FARUQI

Osman Faruqi is the co-founder of MetaPoll. He has worked closely with a number of research firms in Australia as a campaign strategist and political adviser for the Australian Greens. He also has an in-depth understanding of Australia’s media and political landscape as a result of his work as a political journalist, broadcaster and commentator. He likes politics, ice cream, Gossip Girl and nationalising things.

EMMA DANIELS
Known as the brains (and heart!) behind Dear Pluto, Sydney’s best speed dating, Emma Daniels is a self-proclaimed matchmaker; getting people in touch with new skills, ethically sourced goods and likeminded people. How well can we manoeuvre the perilous terrain that is intimate relationships?

SHILA GHAZANFAR
Currently undertaking a PhD at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Sydney, Shila Ghazanfar analyses laboratory sequence data to assess the likelihood of prescribing drugs for melanoma. When cancer treatment is shadowed by uncertainty, how can stats bring a cure to light?

One more to be announced!

fastbreak is a breakfast series of digestible five-minute talks from five speakers who lead a generational venture into entrepreneurship, innovation and changemaking. In collaboration with the Powerhouse Museum, our guests speak to a melting-pot audience of students, creatives and young corporates.

We eat words for breakfast. And good quiche.
