What's it all about?

WHO SAYS young people don't have anything to say?

Shoalhaven Media Makers was a series of workshops for years 10 and/or 11 students that were designed to help develop the skills and strategies young people need to ensure their voice is heard on community issues and events important to them and their peers.

The students (pictured left) from eight Shoalhaven and Kiama high schools were challenged to produce an item under the banner 'Multimedia for Social Good'. The final videos covered topics that included cyber-bullying, youth volunteering, skateparks, and recycling.

The hands-on workshops covered video, editing, digital storytelling, graphic design, promotion and publicity. Experts in the fields of communication, community engagement and graphic design ran the workshops.

Shoalhaven Media Makers was a University of Wollongong – Faculty of Creative Arts, UOWTV, and Vibewire partnership program. Shoalhaven Media Makers was funded under the University of Wollongong Community Engagement Grants Scheme.

Shoalhaven Media Makers was coordinated by Jo Stirling and Shawn Burns (University of Wollongong, Faculty of Creative Arts), and Vibewire's Omar Samad and Annie Le Cavalier.
