fastBREAK: PLAY Review

Bowls of confetti waiting at the ready. After all, why wait till the weekend to Play?

fastBREAK: Play Guest Review

Check out the latest fastBREAK: Play review from regular fastBREAKer, Brooke Sachs.

fastBREAK: Play

It’s not just a cardboard box. It’s a fighter jet plane swooping through fluffy clouds to a far-off land.

It’s a towering marble castle that looks over a sprawling kingdom complete with its own purple-scaled fire-breathing dragon. It’s a pirate ship being tossed in the merciless Pacific Ocean on its way to seek ancient treasures.

The wonders of play make anything possible. The only limit is your imagination. But as we get older, rules,  the reality of getting a “real job” and “settling down” begin to weight down on us.

Then childhood dreams of becoming a superhero, a princess, or even an elephant don’t look very impressive as a career aspiration on one’s resume.Despite the pressure of the future setting in and time ticking away, some people manage to keep the fun of youth in their lives.

After our successful fastBREAK: U-Turn last month, join us for fastBREAK: Play on March 30 at the Powerhouse Museum.

We invited five guests to tell their stories of how growing up doesn’t have to mean limiting your imagination.

Each of the speakers will have five minutes to show-and-tell how the keep the possibilities of “play” in their life.

This month’s guest speakers are:

Gavin Smith is the President of Robots and Dinosaurs, a Sydney hackerspace that works to give creative types, geeks, and artists, a place to collaborate on projects.

Michael Scholz is the co-founder and director of Pigeonloft an iphone app that revives the charm of communicating via post-cards but bringing this into the digital 21st century. Michael is also ProductManager at software enterprise provider SAP.

Ben Rennie is the director and founder of innovation lab 6.2 which works to improve organisations and companies to make them more efficient and achieve the position they want in their market.

Lisa O’Brien is a Sydney-based freelance writer and editor. She is currently Deputy Chief Subeditor at Cleo magazine.

Robyn Wilson, AKA Flutter Lyon is the inventor of the Ink-Pressing art form, a creativity facilitator and the director of Flutter Lyon Open Studio.

Whether you’re young and fun, or young at heart, come to fastBREAK: Play to find out how five creative minds are making every day “play time”. Start the adventure by getting your tickets here.

fastBREAK is a monthly series of rapid-fire interactive talks held on the last Friday of each month from 7:45-9:00am. Each event has five young industry leaders from various sectors exploring the question or topic of the month. These five minute responses circle around the themes of creativity, commercialisation, collaboration, connections and conversation.

Following the presentations, our speakers are invited to have breakfast (many thanks to Black Star Pastry) with the audience. This will give you time to interact and converse with all the speakers as well as other attendees. Having these conversations is a great opportunity to meet new working professionals from various industries and connect with networks of corporate and non-profit organisations.

This program as has many great successes and is a creative platform for participatory and multi-disciplinary insights into projects and individuals. With an audience who has an appetite for innovation, possibilities become realities.
